IMPROVE YOUR PUTTING BY USING A CHALK LINE Tournament Professionals use the following drill to improve their putter face alignment, putting technique and confidence. If you ever attend a professional golf tournament, have a close look at the practice putting green and you will see a number of chalk-lines that have been placed on the green by either the professional or their coaches trying to resolve putting errors immediately. All that’s needed is a carpenter’s chalk line and a bottle of white chalk that can be purchased from your local hardware store for around $20.00. Find a 4 or 5 meter straight uphill putt on the practice green. Professionals typically look for an area near the edge of the green so that the line doesn’t disturb anyone else. Make several putts to ensure there is no break in the putt. Then, place the chalk-line hook inside the putting green cup and snap the chalk line on the green along the intended line of putt.Start about 1 meter from the hole, putt six balls. When you make all six putts in a row, move farther back in 1 meter intervals and repeat the drill until you make all the putts from this new distance. If you miss one ball stay at the distance until you hole all putts successfully. The chalk line allows you to be sure that the white line on the putter face is square to the target which promotes the proper stroke path and provides a visual aid to help you align your feet and body square to the target line. Putting uphill encourages hitting short putts firmly into the cup, which reduces the chances of a weak putt breaking out of the hole. In addition, practicing with six balls from each distance until completed successfully is a great mental drill and will help resolve unseen alignment errors in the stroke.Happy GolfingAlan Wilson PGAwww.qgsgolf.com

The game of golf can be very rewarding to learn and play. There are many aspects to the game and putting has often been said to be a separate game altogether. Learning how to putt can be quite a challenge. Some people pick it up quickly and become good but often they encounter difficulties down the road and develop the dreaded putting yips. Here some useful tips to help you become a good putter and stay that way.

Putt To Make It:

Many golfers on long putts try to just get the ball close to the hole. They often will aim for a 3 foot circle. The problem with this strategy is that you are just increasing your margin for error. A better approach would be to always putt to make it. This means that on every putt your goal is to make the putt.

This does not mean you have to hit the putt hard in order to make sure to get it to the hole. Instead think of making every putt by seeing the ball dying into the hole on the last rotation. This way your misses will be much closer.

Trust Your First Impression:

When you are reading greens it can be very easy to get overwhelmed and start doubting how the putt will break. When you first approach a green take a bit of time to look at the putt from a few different angles. After that simply come up with a good solid first impression and stick with that.

It is very important to be decisive on your putts. You must trust the read you make and believe the ball will go in the hole. This does not mean you will make every putt. Your goal is to give every putt the best chance of going in the hole and this way of thinking will allow you to do that. Remember that even the best professionals misread greens so when you do misread a few putts just forget about them and believe your next read will be accurate.

Focus On Your Successful Putts:

If you play a lot of golf then you will inevitably miss a lot of putts. It can become very easy to dwell on these misses. However there is no doubt that you have made a fair number of putts too and some of them have probably been quite spectacular. Be sure to celebrate all the great putts you have made. This will ingrain into your mind the good putts you have made and will help to build your putting confidence.

Be sure to remind yourself of some of the greatest putts you have ever made. One good thing to do is each day before you go to bed think about the top 3 putts you have ever made. Replay them in your mind as vividly as you can and really experience the joy and satisfaction that making those putts gave you. Never suppress your emotions on successful putts, of course do not brag too much either, instead celebrate internally so you do not appear rude to your playing partners.

Do Not Think Too Much:

It is easy when you are about to hit your putts to start thinking about all sorts of things. Make sure that when you are about to hit your putts you are focused on your target. So make sure to pick out a target like a blade of grass on the edge of the hole or somewhere to the right or left of the hole if you expect the putt to break. Also make sure your target is something small.

Do not think about putting mechanics or how you made the last putt or about how the putt will break as you are about to hit the putt. Just focus on the target and let your mind and body strike the putt in the most accurate manner that will allow the putt to go to the hole with the right direction and speed. Use some of these tips to help you make more putts.

We Americans like our gadgets, systems and even sleep aid devices. Why then would golf training devices be any different? Let’s take a look at the game and a few of the golf training devices that are available. The Goal‘What’s the goal?’ is a relevant question to ask your self, unless it’s just a one day outing to get some fresh air with friends. Even then, you may want to know what to expect when your partner pulls out the latest gadget. Actually, golf training devices are inherent in the game.Casual golfers typically like to get to the course, move around a little, visit with friends and if the game goes well – so be it! The casual golfer still wants a good pair of shades, maybe a visor and clubs that will make it through nine to eighteen holes. The avid golfer starts to pay more attention to form, technique and performance and here’s where the gadgets really start to come into play. Enter the golf training device. What’s Out There?Specialty clubs are designed to move the ball down the course, providing more control or distance. Drivers are particularly prone to redesign. It is probably a natural response to the millions of dollars spent on this game so popularized by movies, where golf and business become bed-fellows, spawning all the while those wild schemes of money-making and political import. Well, maybe that’s a little overdone; that’s Hollywood!Meanwhile, out on the practice tee, there’s a driver that pivots to show you where and how your personal glitch is manifesting. Then there are putters – the ultimate golf training device. They are shaped peculiarly, weighted extensively and made of every known metal on the planet, just to help shave a stroke or two. There are special shoes, gloves, belts, balls with a Nike® logo, drivers, putters and everything in between. Most have some merit but you have to do your research and find what works for you. If that’s not enough, you can video your swing and have it analyzed. One At A TimeI suggest you first commit a few bucks and spend an hour with a golf profession. This can in a very short time point you in a couple directions that might yield great results. Target those areas one at a time – with or without golf training devices – and then give it a little time to sink in. Assimilating new information, systems and techniques deserves that much. Use your golf training devices wisely and improvement will show itself. Enjoy the show!

Drive for show, putt for dough. Relax the nerves, trust your line. Eyes over the ball, smooth take away. Accelerate through the ball, and…
Klinka tinka tinka—yes! The sweet sound of a birdie putt, or even a 6-footer for par, dropping into the cup. It’s a great feeling, especially if you just finished the 18th for a personal best round. Or if you just won 5 skins to make your buddies shell out some serious coin. A hot day with the putter can make you feel like a million bucks. Actually, in the case of a PGA tour pro, it can earn you a million bucks.
Too bad that for the average golfer those days seem to come so infrequently. The average Joe uses up anywhere between 32 and 40 putts per round, while the best pros average around 30. Tour pros make just under 90% of their putts from 4-5 feet, while average guys make around 50%. That’s a lot of shots to give up! Think about this: if you are a thirteen handicapper, your average score is around 85, and you average 36 putts per round, then 42% of your shots are putts! And what do you spend most of your time doing at the range? If you’re like most guys (and gals) then you spend most of your time beating balls with your driver or mid-irons. Yet, according to the numbers you should be spending almost half of your time on the putting green.
So how can busy people with little time for golf practice still improve their putting game without doubling practice time or drastically reducing the amount of time spent practicing their full shots? Golf training aids are the answer. Many training aids exist that can quickly improve your putting stroke and green reading without spending hours on the putting green. Just 10 to 15 minutes per practice session is required for most golfers to drop strokes quickly. Here are some tips for finding right training aids or a combination of training aids to maximize your results:
1. Look for training aids that allow you to easily see the following things: square clubface, shoulder alignment, eye placement (over the ball), foot alignment, and stroke path. Some devices use mirrors, some use low-power lasers. Most training aids have physical barriers that keep the putter on the right path during the stroke.
2. For eye alignment you can always do this: line up the putt and address the ball as if you were going to hit the putt. Then take a ball from your pocket, put it between your eyes, and allow it to drop straight down. Wherever the ball lands is where your eyes are lined up. They should be directly over the target ball.
3. Whatever device(s) you choose, make sure that they are not too large and/or awkward. My experience is that you don’t use the device unless it is convenient.
4. Follow through is also important, so make sure that the training aid gives you feedback for the whole stroke. You need to see that your stroke path is straight and putter face releases properly after contact, otherwise you will have consistency problems.
5. Use the golf training aid consistently, every time you practice. You need to groove the stroke and you can’t do that unless you keep at it. Also, if possible, use the device at home or at the office when you have a spare minute. This extra practice time really helps.
I wish you good luck and a hot blade!

For those who have played golf for a few years, it is common knowledge that it is a game where you need to concentrate a lot on the details. Even things like the brand of the golf ball that you are playing with matters a lot when it comes to this game.
The golf grip stands as one of the most important aspects of the game. A major part of learning golf is devoted to mastering the right kind of grip.
In a golf match, about half of the strokes are devoted to putting and thus, it is imperative for you to devote complete attention to this part of your game. It is a major contributor to your score and if you want to be a good golf player, you must make sure that you practice putting will full enthusiasm and dedication.
There are a number of ways in which you can perfect your putter grip. After you learn the basics, you have to understand by yourself and with the help of your coach which grip suits your style of playing the game. Identifying the grip you are comfortable with and then working on it to become an expert of your kind of grip is one of the most important parts of learning the game.
Below is a list of the most popular putting styles that you need to be familiar with:
• The traditional overlap grip: This is by far the grip adopted by the maximum numbers of golf players. This grip consists of placing your left hand on the grip and resting the right hand just below the left. Once in this position, you need to connect both of your hands by covering the fingers of the right hand with the index finger of the left hand.
• The two fingers down grip: For this grip, you need to cover the putter grip with both of your hands. After you do this, you need to place the index fingers of both your hands in such a way that they point towards the putter grip.
• The Claw grip: This grip is considered by experts to be one of the most unusual grips in the game of golf. However, many golfers consider this to be a great grip whenever they face a putting problem. In this grip, you need to place the left hand on the grip and then the right hand above the putter grip. The final step consists of hooking the hand with the help of your right thumb.
• The left below hand grip: Another golfers’ favorite, this grip is the exact opposite of the traditional putting grip. All you need to do is to inverse the positions of your right and left hand.
• The box grip: This is a relatively new kind of grip. It has emerged as the preferred kind of putting grip for a number of golfers after it came into being a few years ago. For this grip, you need to put both your hands side by side in order to make the shoulders level. Then, put your left hand on top of the putting grip and the right hand about an inch below it. This will create a box shape with your hands.
These are the most popular golf grips used by golfers around the world. On these basic grips, each golfer can add his or her own improvisation. So if you are a beginner, start off by going for the grip that suits your playing style best and then gradually improvise on it to improve your game.

Is your putting a weak area in your game? Utilze this putting drill to really solidify your putting game, take several strokes per round off your score and stop mishitting the ball.

It’s called “left-hand-low”. Both Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer felt they would have been better on the green if they had learned this way and it’s not too late for you to experiment with it.

If you’re serious about winning, you need to roll the ball in the hole consistently. The pros never leave anything to chance. They understand that the relationship between pace and line is crucial and by experimenting with this putting drill you may just get a better handle on both pace and keeping your ball in line.

If you miss a lot to the left or the right, chances are you’re not thinking much about how you grip the putter or, if you’re like me, you’ve been gripping your putter the same since your dad showed you how all those years ago.

If you grip your putter like most people do, the same or similar to how you grip your woods and irons, than its just far too easy to let the clubface rotate open or closed and push the ball right or left.

Follow this popular technique used by many pros and you’ll notice the difference in control right away.

Take your normal grip with your left hand on top and now reverse it so that your left hand is now on the bottom. It may not seem it at first but this is most ergonomically correct and natural way to grip the putter.

Now do the following to set up and put correctly every time:

1. Get your feet at least shoulders-width apart, knees pointed slightly out. Bend from your hips, relax your arms and make sure your head is just inside the ball. The ball should be about an inch in front of center with your putter in the center of your stance.

2. Your forearms should make a triangle and your wrists should never move. Your grip should be tense but low on the tension scale – don’t choke it to death! Pressure chokes off feel.

3. Locate a spot a couple of feet in front of you on your line – a bleached spot perhaps. Now follow this exact routine every time – look at the spot, the hole, the spot and now…stroke.

4. Understand that the putting stroke is one complete movement. Bring the putter back ¼ and forward through the ball ¾ for a nice, sooth roll with good feel. Obviously, bring the putter back farther on longer shots and try to maintain that 3-1 ratio.

Now you have a great set-up and by utilizing the “left-hand-low” grip, your lead hand will do the work, keeping yourself from “pushing” the putter into the ball or “stabbing” at it which will make the ball skip around.

Try it on the practice green or in the hallway or kitchen at your home until you get as comfortable with this hold as you are with your full-swing grip, then go and putt the lights out.

Thanks for reading. Good luck, good hustling.

All successful putters believe that they are one of the great putters. Average putters always remember the putts they missed, and forget their successful putts. Besides having confidence in themselves, good putters are also confident in their putting technique. You may not yet be a great putter, but start thinking like one and that will soon change.

1. Attitude – It’s all about attitude. Having a good attitude means believing that you are a good putter, being confident in your putt, believing in your capabilities rather than the putting system, and believing that you are going to make a successful putt. Good putters are more likely to make a putt without being afraid of putting. You will never make a good putt if you play golf believing that you cannot make a putt. Try the power of positive thinking, it really works.

2. Believe in the Putt. You will never be a good putter if you just make a putt hoping that it will be successful. Good putters know that they must believe in what they see, accept their decision, and then know it will be a successful putt after deciding on path and speed. Even though you miss, you need to work on having confidence in your putting decisions. You will get better at them with practice.

3. Concentrate On the Putt. Because your goal is to make a successful putt, you must concentrate on everything about putting starting from understanding the green, reading the line, aiming the putter to the hole, and making a decision by yourself. When you are putting, be in the moment. Make sure every aspect of the putt is right, then do it.

4. Believe in Your Feelings and Senses. Sounds too touchy feely? Well Ben Crenshaw, one of the world’s greatest putters, said “If you want to be a good putter, you will have a good feeling when you are on the green”. Good putters believe in their instinct, rather than instruction. They use their feelings, senses, instinct, and imagination. They know the way to putt without knowing “how” to putt.

5. Use your imagination. Putting requires you to see the putt. You must be a good green reader and able to “see” or “feel” the right way to putt. Use your imagination to see the putt to the hole. This will help you read the green and line that your ball will be running on. The more clearly you see the putt, the better your chances will be to succeed.

There are lots of putter in the market, but some basics about putter length are conventional, belly and long.

There are hundreds of variations of putters out there, but there are three basic types when it comes to putter length: the conventional, belly and long putters.

What putter length is best for you? The easiest answer is that it’s completely a matter of personal preference.

If you’re thinking of going away from a conventional putter to a belly or long putter, you simply need to get on a putting green and see which putter length feels best and produces the best results.

Each type does have qualities, however, that might narrow the choices. And we’ll take a look at those now:

Conventional Putter

Teaching pros are nearly unanimous: If you can use a conventional putter, then you should use a conventional putter. And a short one at that.

To achieve the ideal putting posture, take your stance and lean forward so that your eyes are directly over the line of the putt.

Let your arms hang loosely down, then bring your palms together. Voila – your ideal putting posture.

Obviously, you can’t take that posture unless your putter length is a conventional one.

So why do some pros (and more amateurs) go to the belly or long putters? Conventional putters require nerves of steel and an absolute minimum of wrist action. Poor putting nerves are often call the “yips”; those with excess wrist action are said to be “handsy.”

If you suffer from the yips or are too handsy in your putting, then trying a belly or long putter could be for you.

The Belly Putter

The belly putter provides a third point of contact – the abdomen (along with each hand) – between the putter and the player, which provides stability and balance to the stroke.

The main advantages of this putter length are that the putter is anchored against the body, and wrist action is easier to control, while the player remains in a posture that is close to the ideal.

However, since belly putters are longer and generally have a thicker grip, feel is reduced. Distance control is dicier as well due to the longer shaft.

The Long Putter

The long putter turns the putting stroke into a true pendulum swing, totally eliminating wrist hinge. Golfers take an upright stance, so those who suffer from weak or aching backs get a bit of a break.

But the long putter is even longer than the belly putter (it ain’t called the “long putter” – or “broomstick putter” – for nothing!), and that means even less feel and feedback. It also means that controlling distance becomes a bit more problematic.

But it does have the advantage of taking wrist action out of play. As Lamanna says, “This is usually the last hope for a bad putter. If this one does not cure the yips, you have to take up tennis!”

The golf swing can seem complex and difficult to master. If you are learning the game for the first time then it is important to get started on the right foot otherwise you could spend a lot of time and money doing things that are just not effective and will not help you play better golf. Here are some simple golf swing tips that you can follow to help you on the road to shooting lower golf scores quickly.
Tip 1: Use the right grip
The grip is the first fundamental of golf swing mechanics you need to master. There are many types of grips you can use and the most popular one is the interlocking grip which works well for people with smaller hands. The other grip types include the ten finger grip and the baseball grip which is used by many beginner golfers.
Grip pressure is important and it is ideal to use a very light grip pressure in most situations unless you are in deep rough in which case you may need to use a slightly stronger grip. Gripping the golf club too tightly can result in a poor release which will send the ball off target in most target with a loss of distance as well. The interlocking grip is used by most good players and involves simply locking the small finger of the right hand with the index finger of the left hand and this applies to right handed players.
Tip 2: Setup the right way
The setup to the golf ball is important. A good setup will make it more likely that you will execute a good golf swing which will send the ball far and straight. Make sure your feet are aligned directly at the target so check for this by using a golf club on the ground that points to your target on the driving range or have a fellow golfer check your alignment for you.
Your stance should get wider with each club until roughly shoulder length for the driver. If you are really tall then your stance may exceed shoulder length slightly as you will need the wider stance for more stability. The ball position should start at the center of your stance with the wedge and gradually move up to line up with the right foot for the driver.
Tip 3: Use a proper backswing
Do not rush your backswing and at the same time do not go too slowly either. Move at a pace that fits your personality. If you are generally a fast talker and walker then you will probably have a backswing that is relatively quick. It is best to start the backswing in one piece and keep the left arm as straight as you can for the entire backswing. At the top of the swing you should feel some tension in your right hamstrings and keep both feet planted on the ground.
Tip 4: The right downswing and follow through
Start the downswing by pulling the club with your left hand and do not get your right hand involved too much otherwise you will end up casting the club and releasing it too early which will result in loss of power and accuracy. Keep your head down and let the momentum of a complete follow through bring your head up instead of trying to peek to see where the ball went. Try some of these golf swing tips to help you reduce your handicap and shoot lower scores.

Did you know that a few simple golf swing tips may be all you need to avoid hitting those slices, hooks, or fat shots? One simple change such as moving the ball position may fix that thin shot that you keep hitting off the tee.

Today, it’s very easy to find a good place with good golf magazines or books. Spending an afternoon in the sport section of your local book store can give you free valuable golf tips. Here you can find golf swing tips from professionals or teachers and coaches of professional golfers. Books and magazines with the latest golf swing tips can also be found online.

Here are 5 simple but very powerful golf swing tips that cover the golf swing basics.

1. One of the most important golf swing tip is to keep your club face square. Striking the golf ball with a square club face will allow it to fly straight and far. You need to maintain a consistent golf swing plane in order to keep your club face square. Take the golf club straight back and then following through on the same swing plane.

2. Timing is essential when it comes to your golf swing. Do not take the golf club back slowly and then accelerate down through your swing. A consistent swing speed throughout the entire swing is the key.

3. Golf fitness is another important factor for improving your golf swing. A few simple flexibility and strength exercises can change your whole golf game.

4. What about your golf grip?. Do not keep your golf grip too tight, it will hinder your golf swing movement. One way to determine if you were gripping the golf club the wrong way is if your hands or arms ache after playing golf.

5. The very best golf swing tip may not be what you want to hear, but practice, practice, practice, is what will ultimately improve your game. The more determined you are to practicing, hitting on the driving range or practice green, the better your golf swing will get. I have followed these basic golf swing tips and they have helped me cut my handicap by 12 strokes.

These are the top 5 golf swing tips handed down by generations of golf pros that are pure RUBBISH!!These 5 golf swing falsehoods have ruined more golf swings than I care to imagine. I believe these 5 so called “golf swing tips” are the reason the average golfer’s handicap has stayed the same for the past 20 years – Even with all the advancements in golf equipment technology.I will be pulling the curtain back on some golf swing tips you may consider as gospel…so please keep an open mind.Top 5 Golf Fallacies That Are Ruining Golfer’s Game:1. RELAX – Pure rubbish! How many times have you heard this golf swing tip from a golf pro or a playing partner? The golf swing is a violent action – is there any other violent action you take when you relax? – of course not – This is foolish advice.2. Be Loose. This is the second cousin of “Relax”. When you are “loose” in the golf swing your hips are NOT restricted therefore you will NOT have that important coil in your backswing robbing you of much power.3. Take The Club Back Inside – More rubbish! I’m sure you’ve heard many times how the correct golf swing is from the inside. So some golfers yank the club way inside early in their backswing thinking this will allow them to hit from the inside. These golfers are shocked when they still hit the golf ball from the outside. Hitting the golf ball from the inside comes from proper hip and shoulder action at the start of the downswing. You can take the club back way outside and still hit the ball from the inside – look at Jim Furyk – he takes the club way back to the outside however his move from the top of the swing is pure and from the inside.4. The Golf Club Is On The Same Plane Going Back As It Is Coming Down. Again, this golf swing tip has been misguiding golfers for generations. The path of the clubface is much more to the inside during the downswing than during the backswing in a sound golf swing. This is because a proper golf swing has a lateral shift of the hips which drops the club into the all important “slot” early in the downswing. This action of the left hip automatically puts the path of the clubface much more to the inside than the path going back.5. Turn The Hips To The Left To Start The Downswing. This golf fallacy causes golfers to “spin out” during the downswing and the result is a total mis-hit of the golf ball. Turning the hips to start the downswing forces you to throw the golf club to the outside causing terrible mis-hits. Again, the correct move is a lateral shift of the left hip to start the downswing and the hips will then turn automatically. It is possible to NOT have this lateral shift and still turn the hips from the top – however, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have the lateral shift of the left hip to start the downswing and the hips NOT turn.Hit ‘em Long and Straight!John Lynch

Playing golf is not just picking a golf club, placing a golf ball on the ground, and hitting the ball as hard as you can. It requires passion, determination and strategy. Hitting a golf ball requires the proper posture, proper golf club, and proper swing. In playing golf, the proper swing is very important as this will determine where the ball will likely fall.A proper golf swing should create a perfect impact on the ball. In order to do this, one must everything about golf as much as possible. Here are some golf swing tips that one has to know in order to elevate one’s swinging standard.First, before hitting any golf ball, one must know the basics. Basics include the proper golf stance, golf club, and familiarity with the golf course. These basic elements are important in order to have an accurate golf swing. For example, no matter how good a person swings if he uses the wrong golf club, the result will be a disaster. The same is true with respect to one’s golf stance. The proper golf swing is impossible if one’s posture is sloppy or incorrect.Second, after knowing the basics, one must know how to hold a golf club properly. The club is held in front pointing away from your body in a 45 degree angle. The position of the hand varies depending on what kind of grip one uses; it may be the baseball grip, the overlapping grip or the interlocking grip. No matter what kind of grip one uses, the important thing is that one is comfortable with how he holds the golf club.Third, swinging is easy if one is relaxed in doing it. The trick is to swing the golf club and follow through. When the club hits the golf ball, continue the club’s motion and do not stop it. As a result, the golf club will move 180 degrees from its point of origin. This graceful swinging motion cannot be achieved if one is nervous or worried. Do not be afraid of hitting or not hitting the ball because the more you think of hitting the ball hard, the lesser chance that you will make a good swing. Always remember that through confidence, a perfect swing may be achieved.Other golf swing tips mainly focus on the swift motion of the club, proper practice etiquette, use of golf swing trainers, and watching golf tutorials. All the golf swing tips found on the Internet, in golf books and manuals, or on flashing golf swing tips during a golf tournament, have the same purpose of improving the way of playing golf. All the golf swing tips have no use if one does not have any background about golf because it is a complicated sport in which many things are to be considered. It is not like basketball wherein one just dribbles, passes, and shoots. One must know something about golf to understand the more complicated aspects of the game. To sum up, in order to achieve the best golf swing, one must be able to understand first what golf is about.

Golf swing tips are now almost everywhere. On the tv, surfing the internet, or in your favority magazine you can find a free golf tip from someone. Not to mention your pals who are ready to offer you a free golf swing tip whenever you are looking for one. Online golf tips are quickly becoming the information source of choice for golfers, the information age has made it easier then ever to get the answer.
So the question we need to ask ourselves is, does a free golf swing tip give us the help we need or send us on a wild goose chase? If you spend some time researching you’ll find that some free golf swing tips are better left alone. Because not all free tips are created equal some professionals and instructors suggest it’s best for golfers to just ignore any free swing tips.
You should evaluate what the free golf swing tip is asking you to do. For instance a tip telling you to swing at the ball with all your strength is seriously incorrect.
Some golfers are seen doing just that how ever, attacking the ball with such strength it’s almost impossible they won’t injure themselves at the same. Another improper tip is to twist over the wrists in an effort to increase the club head speed right before contact is made with the ball. Like the last free golf swing tip mentioned twisting of the wrists is likely to cause injury as well.
The right free golf swing tip will help develop the correct exercises and techniques that condition the golfers body to do the work rather then just b. A genuine free golf swing tip should increase strength in the golf muscles, leading to better results.
Particular free golf swing tips will help build more strength and power in your swing, helping you play a better game over time. Any free golf swing tip that emphasizes this point is bound to be genuine and may have a positive effect on your golf swing.
One thing that free golf swing tips do, is help the golfer thing more about your swing mechanics rather then just focusing on driving the ball hundreds of yards into the fairway, or dropping it in the cup on the green.
Of course it’s difficult to know if the person supplying you with the free golf swing tips is a genuine instructor or pro. Of course there is no better way to determine this then to use your own judgment before you begin to learn a new technique or practice a new drill. Everyone has an opinion on how a proper golf swing should be done, as well as what technique or drill you should be practicing to increase your drive.

Wouldn’t you simply like to be given some reliable golf swing tips? Though, there are voices who claim one should learn by trial and error, many professional sites provide reliable golf swings tips online. The body movement is everything in golf; this is why you need to learn how to actually feel the club as a natural extension of your body. Here are some golf swing tips to make you feel more natural and master your moves in the best way possible. You may use other sources to assist you: golf videos, swing instructions or friends’ advice, the important thing is not to forget you should be having fun.

One first golf swing tip for the peace of your mind is not to believe a setup to be too tough a challenge, as it is not. Most beginners who look for golf swing tips only need to brush their swing up a little and they’ll soon see improvements; it usually goes hand in hand with the hand grip of the club, so be careful with that too. Golf swing tips say that a too tight a grip will ruin the move; just relax and hold the club firmly but tension-free, otherwise you’ll kill the effect of the body swing. The club should make a forty five degree angle in front of you, so your club will be pointing forward.

Then another, golf swing tip would be to start the movement from the feet up and not vice versa. When you backswing you will also have to move the head in that direction too, thus creating some sort of axis, with the feet and the legs at the bottom. A golf swing tip says that when you hit the ball, your head should move three to even five inches to the right. After you made the shot, your head will move forward, a little over the tip of the left foot, creating a second axis and some sort of circular movement. Watch several professional players before you try this golf swing tip yourself.

Another golf swing tip would tell you to avoid putting too much speed in a swing. Those golf players that look fast aren’t necessarily good. Hitting the ball fast means that the arms move independently from the body, which totally contradicts golf principles. The real golf swing tip here is to make the body and arms move synchronically, meaning that the two would move like one, following the same speed pattern.

Basic golf swing tips may simply be all you that you require to keep you from striking those heavy shots, hooks, or slices. For instance, merely shifting the ball location may set right that thin shot, which you tend to hit off the tee. Rather than getting dejected and vowing never again to turn up at a golf course, contemplate on a couple of tips regarding golf swing and strive at perfecting your golf swing.
Now tips on golf swing can be collected from a number of sources. A fine place to begin is with recent golf books or golf magazines. Here it is possible for you to come across golf swing tips from experts or teachers and instructors of professional golfers. Orders for magazines and books containing tips on golf swing can be placed online.
In case you are extremely earnest regarding getting a few vital tips regarding golf swing, and you possess the necessary money and the time at your disposal, think about registering for a few golf lessons or joining a golf clinic where a professional gives you expert advice.
In order to put you on the track of learning the appropriate golf swing tips, the following are some golf swing tips, which deal with the fundamentals of a golf swing.
1. Amongst the most vital tips on golf swing is to maintain a square clubface. Hitting the golf ball by means of a square clubface ensures that the ball goes straight and a long way. In order to maintain the clubface square, you require to keep a steady golf swing plane. Practice bringing the golf club right back and subsequently follow through on the very same swing plane.
2. Next, timing is of the essence in the case of your golf swing. Now you may wish to possess a steady swing speed all through the whole swing. In fact it does not help out with your golf swing if you tend to bring the golf club right back slowly and then speed up right through your swing.
3. Then, golf fitness is an essential factor for developing your golf swing. Doing some easy golf exercises can vastly enhance litheness and power.
4. The kind of golf grip that you have is a further factor in honing your golf swing. Ensure that you do not have a very rigid golf grip, or else it will hamper your golf swing action. A fine way of determining whether your golf grip remains very tight is if your arms and hands become sore after you have finished playing a game of golf.
5. In fact, the best tip on golf swing may not exactly be to your liking but it is nothing but practice, and more practice, that will assist you with your golf swing the most. The greater the time devoted to practicing, or being out there on the practice green or driving range, the greater the development you will find not just in the golf swing, but also in your total performance as well as scoring.

A Quick Secret to Improve My Golf Scores My final aim in life is to improve my golf scores. I understand that I will probably never play as well as Tiger Woods, but I study his techniques just the same. Also, I also like to study golfing stats and I try to use that data to improve my golf scores. Occasionally it works, and infrequently winds up being useless trivia. For instance, did you know that most of the best scratch golfers on the planet miss , on average, six greens in any given round? That is one in 3, perhaps it’s just me, but those numbers don’t sound that great to me.But here’s the important part, they still get around a golfing course in par or better. So how do they do it?It’s really easy; all of them play fantastic short games. The way they play their shots on, or just off the green are the genuine key to shooting great scores and reducing your crucial handicap. So, let’s break it down to the basic question. What do I need to do to improve my golf scores and get the golf ball in that cup in fewer shots? The short game is the area I need work on to improve my golf scores. But obviously you cannot use a putter if conditions are against you. Everything in the game of golf is a judgment call and the standard of your short game will be reflected in your scores. The key to this concept is that it’s easier to roll the ball a few feet into the cup than it is to judge a shot that is 100 yards away. If, like me you are saying to yourself, I’d like to improve my golf scores, you need to concentrate on your short game. The old maxim is “Drive for show – Putt for dough.” And if you study the game like I do, you realize that is completely true. Now I love to stand on the tee and give the ball a smack as much as the next guy, but you know as well as I do, it doesn’t always get the job done The short game needn’t be tricky, it just needs an altered approach and a little insider knowledge.I was able to improve my golf scores in less than a week.

Ah yes it’s wonderful. As your opposition ball sails into a difficult lie in a bunker you commiserate out loud and inwardly thank the golfing gods for visiting a little piece of potential misery on them. And as if that isn’t enough you are hoping they fail to get out in one and start losing it mentally.

It’s strange because while we gleefully witness the opposition’s difficulties we can feel no real hatred for them. And what happens if they play a remarkable bunker shot that rolls up to the hole and with the last atomic level movement, falls in? You go from glee and fractional pity to outright dislike and loathing. Well maybe this isn’t quite you but most golfers have at some time experienced similar situations and emotions to varying degrees. Depending how much you dislike your opposition in the first place those feelings of glee at their misfortune and resentment at their good play can be quite strong. (We don’t even want to mention the emotional surges of deep resentment if they have a load of really good bounces)

Here is a question I love to ask of any situation I am not enjoying. “What’s good about this?” Now at the time this can be a little tricky to answer because we don’t want to find anything good in a situation causing us anger. We want to be angry, react, whine, complain, blame and moan, but with practice this question can bring us back on the road we need to be if performance is the motivator.

What’s good about finding yourself experiencing these emotions? One thing is that it’s a reminder that we are not playing golf. We are playing the opposition and allowing ego to rule. Use this emotional reminder to get yourself back into playing your game, which should be about playing to your strengths, attempting only those shots you know you are capable of. Play against yourself and the course. The game against yourself is about emotional control and playing one shot at a time. It’s about staying in the present and not allowing past poor performances to enter your thinking during the shot. Example – “I sliced it out of bounds here yesterday, don’t DO IT AGAIN!” It’s about not allowing future results to creep in, like; “If I don’t hole this putt I will lose the hole!”

The game against the course is about managing your game to the course. It’s about balancing risk and reward and managing tricky situations so you end up with bogey at worst instead of doubles and triples. It’s about Red, Orange or Green lights on each shot. If a shot you are about to play is flashing big red lights in your mind you shouldn’t be doing it. Rethink your club and shot strategy until you have a shot you know you have a very high probability of playing well. In other words Green lights flashing in your head.

The mental game of golf and life is vast, fascinating and worth taking a serious look at because the payoffs for your performance are truly amazing. You don’t have to become a psychologist, there are lots of easy to understand and implement methods that have high value payoffs.

“It will always be the ball and me.” -Tiger Woods

Step One

Line Up Your Golf Ball

Tiger Woods does it. And the only reason Jack Nicklaus never did it is because nobody had thought of it yet. I don’t know who first thought of it, but they are a genius.

Think about like this. If you do not use a line on the ball to line up on your target line, there is no other visual reference. The line doesn’t exist and you are left to a mental picture that is vague at best.

Fortunately, most ball makers are putting a line of sorts on their balls. But still, the more visible the line, the better it is. So get out your Sharpie and put something on that ball that really jumps out at you.

And it will help if you practiced lining up the ball a little bit. You don’t have to be at the golf course. Just point it at something on the carpet at the house. But don’t let the word practice scare you. I just mean work on it for about five or ten minutes and you will have it mastered and ready for use at the golf course.

If you are missing a lot of putts to one side or the other once you start lining the ball up, you may need to adjust your aim a little.

And, this is important, if you are not comfortable with the alignment of the ball once you get over the putt, back off a look at it again. Nobody is going to care and it only takes 10 seconds to do it. And most likely by the time you stand back up to the putt it will look right. If it still doesn’t look right, then it is wrong and you should realign the ball.

There is nothing that will improve your putting quicker than to create a physical visible reference to what has, up until now, been an imaginary line.

Step Two

Focus on the Speed

Speed is KING! Put it in its proper place.

I work at a golf course and play with players of all levels. I myself shoot in the mid 70’s. In my experience, speed is the biggest problem for most players when it comes to putting. The same players who spend a lot of time on the line hit the ball way to hard or too easy.

You should think hard about the speed and make a couple of practice strokes while you are standing behind the ball. I also find it helpful to look at the hole as I do this.

It is a matter of feeling the arm stroke required to get the ball into the hole. And you have to get feeling for the speed before you ever step over the putt. If you are trying to figure out the speed after you step over the putt, it is too late.

You have to commit to the speed before you get over the ball, and then establish the feel for the speed from your putting position with two or three practice strokes. Don’t make the mistake of worrying about the path or anything else on your practice strokes. They are only for the speed.

Always remember that speed is crucial and should be your primary concern. You can’t really read a putt if you don’t have an idea of the speed to base the read on. And that’s just another reason for speed to be on the top of your list of putting concerns.

Step Three

Follow the Line

You have lined up your golf ball, and committed to your speed. Now it is time to approach the ball and get set up to hit the putt. Most people just waste the approach to the ball, when it can ,really be a beneficial few seconds.

The only thing that comes close to speed in importance is line, and it is a close second. By the time you have gotten behind the ball for a final look at the read, you should be comfortable and committed to the speed. As you take that final look at the read, follow the line on the ball for a final visual check.

You will likely have a few little steps to make as you walk up to take you stance. As you do, follow the line on the ball out to the area directly in front of the ball for a foot or so. Do this repeatedly until it is time to get lined up.

When line up time comes, you will be very familiar with the line in front of the ball that it will eventually roll over on the way to the hole. It reinforces your perception of the line on the ball by extending that line in your minds eye.

It also allows you get comfortable with the line so you will not have to second guess yourself while you are aiming the putter.

Basic Rules of Putting

I have chosen to add this section because it seems that most golfers are unaware of something that seem common knowledge to me.

1) Faster greens break more than slower greens.

2) Downhill putts break more than uphill putts.

3) If in doubt, play more breaks.

Most players miss short putts by underplaying the break when going downhill and overplaying it going uphill. If that describes you, next time you play double the break you play on your downhill puts and cut it in half for uphillers.

Conclusion

Putting is the most challenging part of golf. It makes all the difference in the world as far as your score is concerned.

To me, it is also the best part of my game. I rarely miss a putt inside of five feet, and I make more than my share in the 5 to 10 foot range. I have many days when I don’t miss at all inside of ten feet.

I am not telling you that to brag about my putting. I am just illustrating what a chronic

yipper that can’t make a three footer to save their life can achieve if they forget about making a stroke and start looking at the things that will help them make putts. I was once that chronic yipper.

Almost all putting instruction I see is pure BS. Putting is not a science. It is a game. More specifically, it is a target game. Focusing on technique will never help you get better as a putter. If you want to work on your stroke, do it on the practice green.

And if you want to make more putts on the course forget about making a good stroke.

Good putting doesn’t take a good stroke. It takes a stroke that consistently hits the ball on the correct line at the correct speed. And I have seen some pretty shaky looking strokes that made a lot of putts.

I have given some valuable insight that will help you putt better because it will remove your mind from the physical stroke and focus on what is really important. Line and speed.

If you would like to learn how to apply the fundamentals of every other target game to your putting so hitting the ball on line will be as instinctive as throwing a ball, I recommend you look at Target Putting. You can do that right now by clicking on the book cover below.

It will change the way you look at putting and make you a significantly better putter within about 15 minutes.

Putting is probably the single most important golf technique in the game, never forget that half of all strokes allowed for in a par score are putts. The Putting Green is an almost sacred place for golfers. It is where games are won and lost. It looks so easy – there are none of those careful fine points to tune in your swing to achieve the long low drive or the stunning iron shot. Some of the best putters produce astounding strokes with an indifference that suggests disdain to us lesser mortals who struggle with our putters. Improving your putting is a great way to improve your scores quickly but how do you do that – and why should you?
As to why, there is a simple answer which is best illustrated by going back to the last time Tiger Woods won The Open. Sergio Garcia hit almost 80% of the greens and 66% of the fairways, striking the ball well throughout the tournament, but his putting let him down. Even though he hit most of the greens in regulation, Sergio averaged nearly two putts on each of those greens. Tiger won the tournament, he hit far less greens than Sergio but made almost a quarter less strokes on each of those greens. Taken over the entire tournament, this difference is why it was Tiger’s name on the trophy!
Putting makes up over 40 percent of your game, so its importance cannot be over-emphasized. You should devote at least that percentage of your practice time to it. Nothing spoils a good round more than weak putting so when you practice make sure you work on both the mechanics of the stroke and the feel. Putting has often been described as more inspiration than technique and there is no doubt that some good putters simply cannot explain it, they are, as it were, born to it. But the poor putter needn’t give up. Working hard to pick up some essentials, along with a sensible practice regime, will result in steady improvement and the results will soon show – remember that old golfing adage – drive for show and putt for dough! Once your score is consistent and you have developed your game it is time to start thinking about developing feel. Putting feel is an acquired skill, your brain needs to determine how the length of your stroke relates to distance. This begins by ensuring you always make solid contact with the ball, and that comes from those good fundamental techniques you should be practicing. The basic stroke motion is a pendulum action. When putting, your hands should always be slightly ahead of both the club head and the ball. Your arms and shoulders should form a triangle that moves as one during your back swing and stroke – exactly like a pendulum.
There are many different grips demonstrated by the pro’s when putting but it really doesn’t make much difference as long as you know what you’re doing with the putter head. As long as you can keep the edges of the putter square to the target during the stroke you will be OK. For example, keeping your left-hand low tends to keep the face angle more square as it swings up like a pendulum. The ‘up’ motion gets the ball rolling earlier, which creates a straighter line, reducing the potential for break, almost like taking the bottom of the ball and rolling it up over the top. Try experimenting with different grips and see which one works best for you. Putting with your rear arm can give a feeling of acceleration through the putt, which is critical for creating a smooth, end-over-end roll. Rear-arm putting accomplishes this mainly because of the weight of the putter, with two hands it’s easier to make stabbing or decelerating strokes.
You should never aim to get the ball just as far as the hole, especially if you are off the green. Putting from the fringe or even just off the green is very different to putting on the surface of the green. More often than not putts are not hit with enough power and can end up getting bogged down in the longer fringe grass. Even if you are on the green you must hit the ball hard enough – a ball that doesn’t reach the hole has no chance of going in! Any competent golfer will tell you that a properly struck putt should roll approximately seventeen inches past the hole, as if the hole wasn’t there. This definition is based on the work of Dave Pelz, a professional golf teacher and Ex-NASA Physicist who has written may books on the subject, such as ‘The Putting Bible’ and who is widely regarded as the greatest putting coach working today. Of course, this distance is approximate, depending on specific grass types and environmental conditions, it may vary a little either way, but the seventeen-inch distance is the best rule of thumb for overall conditions.
Stance is less likely to be a consideration in putting than in any other stroke. No hard and fast rule can be established, no two golfers follow the same style. A still and steady body position with a motionless head is, however, one of the essentials that all coaches agree on. Putting is much too delicate a process to withstand any body motion. How you stand is a matter of trial and error, if you feel comfortable that is as good a guide as any. An open stance with the right foot well up to the ball can to be a good position, your body should rest easily on your legs. The length of the club will dictate any bend in the knees but always remember the three golden rules of golf when making your putt – keep your head still, keep your head still, keep your head very still!
Sometimes your putting goes wrong in the middle of a round – but with just a few seconds of concentration you can generally get it back on track – provided that you do your practice. Step off to the side at a time when it won’t delay play and just close your eyes for a few seconds. Swing your arms the way you do on a putt, just like you do when you practice – is your body balanced? Is your head still? Are you achieving the pendulum motion? Check these simple things and you will soon get your putting back on track.
Putting is the greatest test of skill on the golf course and requires regular, high quality practice sessions, ideally on a putting green or with something that represents an actual hole as nearly as possible. Most golfers typically practice putting whenever they can find a suitable surface either outdoors or indoors. It is the most neglected part of the practice routine of many amateur golfers and yet it is the one thing that can reduce your score overnight. If you want to improve your golf techniques quickly and get your handicap down- practice your putting.

Not every PGA pro hits every green in regulation. But all are adept at saving par. Otherwise they wouldn’t be professionals. Weekend golfers, on the other hand, struggle to save par—and it costs them. It adds strokes to their scores and boosts their golf handicaps. If this is you, don’t be embarrassed. You’re not alone. Plenty of golfers have the same problem. But you can change that. By learning to hit par saving shots, you can dramatically cut your golf handicap.

One good way to learn to hit a par saving shot is to watch the pros in action. By studying how they do it, you can learn golf tips that can help you get up and down more often. Previously, watching golf tournaments on television was the only way to see the pros in action. But thanks to the Internet, gleaning golf tips from pro golfers is easier than ever. When it comes to saving par, keep an eye on Luke Donald, Ben Crane, Jose Marie Olazabal, and Tiger Woods. They provide great golf instruction sessions.

Make More Sand Saves

Luke Donald is among the best young players on the Tour. He’s also among the best at sand saves—with a save percentage of nearly 80 percent. That’s impressive. Obviously, he has sand saves down to a science. For him, the key to making sand saves is adjusting his technique to his lie. He’s learned to hit all kinds of shots from a bunker, like the “fried egg.” To hit a high soft shot with this lie, he stands square to the target line, places more weight on his front foot, and opens up the clubface. These adjustments create a higher, softer shot that rolls toward the hole when it lands.

Sink More Putt

Ben Crane is always among the Tour’s putting leaders. He averages about 27 putts per 18 holes. His edge lies in his solid fundamentals. A strong point is his ability to keep his putter underneath his eye line during the stroke. This symmetry—eyes over the line and putter under the eyes—is critical to sinking putts. It promotes consistency because your eyes help determine how your muscles move. In other words, you putt where you look. And where you look affects perception. Maintaining the eyes over the target line keeps the club moving along the line and directing the ball along this path.

Chip Like A Pro

Jose Maria Olazabal is among the premier short game players in the world. He’s always among the Tour leaders in Scrambling—saving par after missing a green in regulation—with a 69 percent average. Like Ben Crane whose putting technique is solid, Olazabal features a flawless chipping technique. Normally, he uses a piston like pitching approach. In it, the right elbow straightens as it applies force at impact. This increases accuracy because it produces an accelerated stroke and keeps the clubface on line—two keys to great chipping.

Escaping From The Rough

When we think of Tiger Woods, we often think of his booming drives or his deadly approach shots. But Tiger also has an uncanny ability to escape from the heavy rough. It requires both strength and technique—and Tiger has both. You can learn a lot from watching Tiger play shots in the heavy rough. For him the key to clearing heavy rough is rotating his chest and hips, preventing the grass from grabbing the club’s hosel and closing the face. In addition, he holds the clubface open by preventing his forearms from rotating.

If your golf handicap never seems to drop no matter how much you visit the range, focus on learning to save par. Do whatever it takes. Read golf tips on how to chip and putt. Take golf lessons on putting and tackling the rough. And watch how the pros do it. You’ll be surprised just how much you can reduce your golf handicap just by learning to save par.

Golf ball markers… probably the least talked about item “in your bag”, but something that every golfer uses. Boring subject? Yes. But have you really ever thought about your ball marker? Some people are superstitious about what they use, some just use whatever is in their pocket at the time. Rule 20-1 discusses the ball marker but doesn’t specify what you can use. A coin, rock, button, or even a beer can is legal. Prior to the early 1950’s, ball markers were not used. Instead, if your opponents ball was more than 6″ away from yours, your only option was to chip over their ball, or go around it. It was called a “stymie” and from what I’ve read, it was often used to prevent your opponent from having a clear putt to the hole. You can read more about the stymie here. Commercially sold ball markers come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and forms. Some are inexpensive, some aren’t cheap. They usually range in size from a dime to a quarter. Some come with matching divot tools. I usually use the free ones you receive at golf tournaments, or whatever is attached to my glove or in my pocket (usually coins). Some of the more popular ball markers have magnets attached to them and can be clipped to your hat. They are very convenient to use and helps avoid having to dig through your pocket looking for the ball mark.

In addition to “fun” ball markers like the happy face above, there are also markers out there that can help your game. This one actually looks useful in that you can set up your aim point using the guide on the marker, pick up your ball, and while cleaning it, still read the green.

Professional golfers are like us. They use a variety of ball markers with the most popular apparently being loose change. Rory Mcilroy uses an American 50 cent piece, and Stephen Ames uses a Canadian dollar. From what I understand, some of the LPGA players are using custom made ball markers. Interested in seeing photographs of what some of the Pro’s use? Click Here.

When you are out there trying to play golf, it can really be poetry in motion. What happens is you end up utilizing an assortment of physical skills as well as techniques. Simply the main thing that is employed is the brain. The mind is what is going to cause all the ultimate decisions. It is going to tell your motor system what to do and when to do various things. Hopefully this is going to be accomplished with some sort of harmony. But actually what it comes down to first and what determines where the ball is going to finally go, is where did you align that golf ball.Alignment is the start of everything in golf. There are 3 tips that are going to help you to hole more putts, so lets get started on them.Golfers align to a SpotThere are some golfers that like to pick out a spot, a couple to a few feet in front of the ball. What is going to happen next is when they set the putter behind the ball, they are going to align the face of the putter or the lines on the putter to the spot that they picked in front of the ball. When aligning to a spot one foot or two in front of the ball it is much easier than trying to align to the golf hole. The real golf hole can be many feet farther, so the spot technique will assist to get the ball started on the intended line.Bowlers use the Spot Alignment StrategyBowlers will use this same kind of alignment strategy. If you are a bowler, you have found out that there are spots on the bowling lane for you to align to. The bowler will pick one of those marks, and then attempt to roll the ball over the spot that they chose. When I finally learned about this and what those marks on the lane were used for, my bowling score skyrocketed up to 104!Logo AlignmentA couple of other schemes that you can use to get the ball started on the intended line so you can start to hole more putts or even stop 3 putting so much. What you can do is to take the logo of the ball and set it along the intended line you want the putt to to start on. This will give you a better visual reference to the line when you are standing over the ball.Use a Sharpie to Mark Your BallThere are some golfers, most golfers, including a golfer named Tiger Woods that will use a sharpie to create a straight line on the ball about one inch long on the ball. Use this technique the same as using the logo technique. Place the line that you drew on the ball on the line that you need the putt to start on. Hopefully you chose the correct line to start on, and if you did, you should watch the ball fall into the hole more often. This sharpie technique is going to also give you a better visual reference for directing the ball down the intended path. When you are standing over the ball, it is already aligned for you. This should make it simple to make the putt. Those are a few idea’s to assist in getting the ball into the hole more often. They work for me, so they should work for you too. Enjoy, and may your scores begin to get lower and your handicap begin to come down.

There are plenty of trick golf balls that can cause plenty of merriment. Just be careful who you use them on.

Golf geeks

What do you buy the golf geek who has the best golf clubs and golf balls money can buy and every golf accessory you can think of and even collects rare and antique golf balls? Probably not one of the below novelty gifts not unless you want to come to an unhappy ending – golf clubs can make nasty weapons when swung in anger you know. Golfers can have a one-track mind when it comes to the game, witnessed by the popular golf joke about the father-son talk’.

The father-son talk

A father spoke to his son, It’s time we had a little talk, my son. Soon, you will have urges and feelings you’ve never had before. Your heart will pound and your hands will sweat. You’ll be pre-occupied and won’t be able to think of anything else. He added, But don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal…it’s called golf. The kind of person who laughs at this joke probably won’t laugh at novelty golf balls. But here’s a few anyway because they’re fun:

Okay, so this is one of those novelty golf balls that probably won’t go down to well if your golfer owns a very expensive luxury car, but if you own a beat up banger, than the fun will be all yours. The Smasher is a sticker that looks like smashed glass with half a real golf ball in the middle. Stick it on the windshield and it looks like a golf ball has smashed through!

Once more, this gimmick probably won’t be appreciated by the more intense player. This gag is up there alongside the exploding golf ball slip this spring-loaded gadget into the hole, and when the ball falls in, it springs right out again.

Looks like a regular golf ball! But naturally it isn’t. This golf ball explodes on impact. Just make sure your golfing buddy doesn’t have heart problems.

Imagine the scene your golfing buddy is nearing the end of the best game of golf in his life. He only has one putt to make to feel like Tiger Woods. He is in golfing heaven when you switch his golf ball for The Wobbler when he’s not looking. He takes the putt and the ball wobbles its way across the green missing the hole and ruining his game. Warning: Do not use unless you want to risk your life and friendship.

You’re probably better off buying novelty toilet roll than ruining your golfing friend’s game by messing with their golf balls.

In golf putting is the name of the game. If you want to quickly reduce your golf handicap, improve your putting. How do you do that? Most experts agree that if you’re serious about improving your putting, you’ll “immerse” yourself in the effort—take golf lessons, read golf tips, and practice as much as you can. They also agree that studying the pros’ putting techniques helps.

But while studying professional golfers often produces valuable golf tips, the modern style of putting may not yield the best results for weekend golfers—at least that’s the opinion of the PGA’s Tom Kite. He thinks weekend golfers shouldn’t putt like the pros at all. Instead, he advocates adopting a different technique—one that h believes can lower your golf handicap dramatically.

More Like Jones Than Woods

Here’s Kite’s theory: Over the years putting has evolved. It’s gone from the wristy stroke of Bobby Jones to the arm-and-shoulder stroke of Tiger Woods. The arm-and-shoulder stroke is fine for professionals, who play on fast, smooth greens and under great pressure. The arm-and-shoulder stroke is highly effective here. It provides control over the putt and also eliminates the influence of the wrists’ smaller muscles. These can twitch when under pressure, causing mistakes.

But the modern stroke may not be right for weekend golfers, who play on slower, bumpier greens and under less pressure. That’s because of two reasons: First, since the modern stroke is longer, it’s also slower. The longer and slower the stroke, the easier it is for the putterhead to go off line. You can’t sink a putt if your putterhead is off line—even if the putt’s speed and roll is perfect.

Second, since the greens weekend players play on aren’t as glass-like as those of the pros, making solid contact is imperative. Slower, bumpier greens require a firmer putt to keep the ball on line—one that can be delivered by using the wrists. A wristy stroke down plays the arms and shoulders. Also, since weekend golfers play under less pressure, they don’t have to worry about twitching.

Support From Jack Nicklaus

Support for Kite’s theory comes from one of the game’s greatest players. If you watch old footage of Jack Nicklaus, you’ll notice a big difference between his approach to putting and Tiger Woods’. Like Woods, Jack is methodical in his basic approach. He carefully studies each putt. And like Woods, he carefully goes through his pre-shot routine. But when it comes to putting the ball, Jack uses more of his wrists than Woods does.

Watching Jack, it almost seems like he “pops” the ball as opposed to stroking it—a good image to keep in your mind, if you adopt this putting style. Also, Jack makes a much shorter stroke than Woods, picking the putterhead up more abruptly and then placing it down on the ball. In fact, Jack’s stroke looks more like a jab than a stroke, with little movement of the arms and shoulders.

Keys To A Wristier Stroke

If you’re committed to changing putting styles, adopting Kite’s approach is worth considering. But you must hold two keys firmly in mind if use his approach. First, keep the blade square to the ball. In the modern stroke, the blade has a tendency to open and close in the course of the stroke. But with Kite’s approach the blade doesn’t have time to open much. In fact, keep the idea of squaring the blade to the ball as your primary swing thought.

Second, make the putter head finish on the ground. In the modern stroke the putterhead keeps moving toward the target after the ball is struck. It’s known as follow-through. It results in hitting up on the putt, causing topped or cut putts. But Kite’s approach eliminates this fault, since there’s no follow-through. Since there’s no follow-through, try hitting the bottom of the ball, not the upper half.

Kite’s idea of using a wristy putting stroke has merit. If you’re looking to improve your putting, consider it. Keep in mind that putting is the most individual of all golfing skills. So the wristier stroke may be better for you than the arm-and-shoulder stroke. But whatever you do, don’t stop taking golf lessons, reading golf tips, or practicing putting. It’s the best way to improve your putting and the quickest way to lower your golf handicap.

Your golfer friends could have laughed at you just because you golf shots could not make you improve your golf performance. But with golf putting tips, you are able to make the best golf putts ever. Assuredly, you can enter the list of world top golfers like Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan and Nancy Lopez among others.

But remember, this is only and only possible if you will maintain the putting skills. You just need to do a lot of practice and maintain your putting consistency. Why get troubled by the shots you make if you could improve them just in some few months if not weeks.

Whether it’s long putt or shot putt, what you need is to get the best lesions or help from either your experienced golf friends or golf pros. It will not take you long because the tips are just but simple. Acquiring them and making a frequent practice of them will see you get the best of the best that you could ever get in golf. Golf putting tips gives you the instructions on the following areas meant to improve your putts.

First, to improve your golf putts you should make a frequent practice of your shot putts. This will require that you have a very wider focus and high level of concentration. Short putts will require that you have many golf balls of which you will be making a shot of each at a close distance with the hole.

When you miss on one please, start again. Consistent practice of this will give you more mental concentration necessary for golf putts. Tiger Woods could only improve his putting skills through high mental ability that could make him see the shot before it’s made.

Secondly, you can place a golf ball on top of a dime before making a strike. This is very important of golf putting tips. With the ball on the dime, focus your eyes on the dime until you make a stroke. Remember; don’t follow the ball with your eyes immediately after the strike especially when making shot putts. Just continue watching from the dime instead of looking at the rolling ball.

Lastly, it is advisable to have you eyes closed as you practice putting. When the eyes are shut, it is very easy to get the feel of your body movement, and this will help you get more sense of you shoulders working as if it is a pendulum. Don’t open your eyes before you hear the ball hit the bottom of the cup. Applying the golf putting tips frequently will make you get the best putts possible.

Slicing the golf ball once is embarrassing. Slicing the golf ball swing after swing is humiliating. One of the fastest way to improve your golf game is to ask a golf swing coach for some golf putting tips. The next best way is to study and understand the correct golf swing mechanics.

Do you have these 3 problems with your golf swing: 1) inconsistency; 2) slice; 3) distance?

Find out how to improve your golf swing and cut your Handicap by 7-12 Strokes and Lengthen your Drive in just 2 Weeks with my FREE Special Report…. Click Here

You super long ball hitters can smash balls at the driving range all day long, but putting is without a doubt the most important aspect to playing good golf. Let’s face it though, putting is also a difficult and frustrating part of the game to master. That is why I consider putting an art form.
You can hit the ball once 220 yards to a green and then take three putts to go eighteen feet. The best putters like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Crenshaw and Loren Roberts all understand the art of putting better than anyone else.
When you watch them putt it looks like an art compared to the strokes of your high handicap buddies. If you watch most people on the putting green at your local golf club you will see the two main flaws most people make when they are putting:
* Their putter looks like it is being “yanked” back and through
* They lift their head to watch the golf ball as soon as or even before they make contact with the ball
What makes Tiger, Ben, and Loren such good putters is that they each have a very smooth, consistent, and concise putting stroke. The putter looks like it is going the same speed throughout the stroke, their takeaway and follow through are the same length, and most importantly their head stays down while they listen for the ball to go in the hole. On long putts they might lift their head to watch, but only after their stroke is completely finished.
How are these four and other professionals able to conquer the art of putting? By practicing above all else and learning to make their mind quiet while they put, they do this through practicing meditation and breathing techniques.
They also learn to become masters at reading greens, and they do that through their own observation while playing. Great putters will watch other players putts to help determine the roll and speed of the greens that day.
I do realize that not everyone can putt as well as Tiger, no matter how hard they practiced. Regardless, by working on what he does you can improve your putting and shave strokes off of your score.
Putting Drills To Learn The Art Of Putting
Here are a couple of drills you can work on to get your putting on the right track. The first drill to learn the art of putting is to place two clubs down on the practice green, about six feet from the cup, parallel to each other, online with the hole creating a “hallway” for your putter as you stroke through the ball. This drill has multiple benefits to teaching you the art of putting.
Try to putt the ball without hitting the shafts of the clubs as you stroke back and through. You can also measure the length of your backswing and follow through during this drill. Also, since you can set the clubs up and move them if necessary to be perfectly on line for the putt, you can work on your alignment by lining up your hips and shoulders with the shaft of the club closest to you.
Using a putting corridor is also great for confidence because once you putt a few you should begin to make most, if not all of them. This is great for improving the mental side of the art form because you will be visualizing the positive result of the ball going into the hole over and over again.
The second drill is to place an empty 160z water bottle underneath your right armpit.(your left if you putt left handed) Make sure that the water bottle stays resting there with the same amount of pressure as you putt the ball back and through.
This drill will make your hands, shoulders, arms, and chest work together creating a very fluid stroke. This technique will also teach you how to take the putter back properly on line without taking it too far inside or outside as the bottle will fall out if not done incorrectly.
If you practice the drills above you should be able to improve your putting and get a glimpse into the art of putting. However, if you really want to learn this art form inside and out, you need to practice the mental side of the equation by learning far eastern breathing techniques like Tiger. Good luck.

Most of us think we sink a lot of short putts. But research indicates otherwise. Weekend golfers sink only about half of their 12-foot putts. While professional golfers under tour conditions sink only about 20 percent of them. The emphasis here, of course, is on “under tour conditions,” which increases putting difficulty.

But sinking more short putts improves your golf handicap, since we usually have many more short putts than long ones during a round. So if you’re really serious about lowering your golf handicap, work on sinking more short putts.

One area of short putting to focus on is alignment. Poor alignment causes more missed short putts than almost anything else. The tips below on help improve alignment.

Correct Shoulder Misalignment

Pulled putts hurts many a weekend golfer. Among the biggest causes of pulled putts is shoulder misalignment. Players with low golf handicaps tend to blame pulled putts on a breakdown of the wrists. But that’s not always the case. If your shoulders are misaligned, you’ll pull putts.

Next time you’re on the practice green, try this simple test: Go through your pre-shot routine. Take your address. Now, bend down and place your club’s shaft lengthwise along your feet so that it’s touching your toes. If the shaft is not running parallel to the target line, you may have discovered why you’re pulling your short putts.

How can you fix this? First, push your hands as close together as possible. The closer your hands, the less likely you are to dip your back shoulder toward the ball, caused by how you grip the club. Second, think of the line of your shoulders as you address the ball. If you’re fighting a pull, make sure your shoulders are parallel to the target line. That way when you swing, it will be along the line of the putt, not out to in.

Aligning The Putterface

In addition to aligning your shoulders properly, your must also align your putterface correctly. The putter’s sweet spot must be perpendicular to the target for the ball to be online and stay that way during the putt. If you’re missing short putts, you could be taking this fundamental for granted—a common error among players with high golf handicaps.

Practicing the credit card drill helps eliminate this problem:

Find a straight 8-foot putt on the practice green and drop a ball down. Go through your normal pre-shot routine, and then take your address. Once you’re set, have a friend switch the ball for a credit card, placing it square to the ball with the long sides pointing toward the hole. Now rise up, stand back, and look along the card’s long edges. These lines should bracket the hole.

If you’re off, repeat the drill, but align the credit card first. Then place the ball on top of it. Now set your putterface square to the edges of the credit card. This allows you to see what straight looks like. After a few practice sessions, you’ll get an idea of what straight really is.

Line-up The Lettering

Another method of improving alignment is perhaps the simplest of all. Find a green where you have a straight putt about 10 to 12 feet. Now drop a ball down and take your address. Align yourself as you normally would. Make sure the clubface is at right angles to the ball. Now, holding the putter tightly, kneel down behind the putter and look over the putterhead to see if you had the putter aligned correctly. If not, keep working on this until you do.

In addition, you can reduce alignment problems when playing by using an old trick that many pros use. Before putting, place a marker behind your ball. Now bend down and align the ball’s lettering so that it’s aiming directly at the hole. Go through your pre-shot routine and take your address. Make sure the putter’s sweet spot is perpendicular to the lettering on the ball before putting. If it is, you’re aligned properly.

Tiger Woods spends about 45 percent of his time on the practice green hitting short putts. That tells you how important sinking those 10 and 12 footers really is. To sink more short putts, take proper alignment seriously. Make sure you are correctly aligned on every putt, even the short ones. Sinking more short putts chop strokes off golf handicaps.

If you play golf you know that a missed two foot putt will cost you as many strokes on your score card as a 280 yard drive that splits the fairway. It is very unfortunate but most golfers don’t practice their putting as much as they should, instead they go to the driving range and hit driver after driver and then wonder why they three putt on the greens, thus ruining what could have been a great round.
What we have put together are a few tips that will help you become more like a Tiger Woods putter and help you to alleviate those unnecessary stokes in your round.
How to Understand the Grain on the Green
Tiger Woods understands what the grain on the green is telling him. For example, the grain of the green will follow the sun. So when you are looking at your putt you need to locate the sun. This will let you know if you are putting with the grain, against the grain or across the grain. Knowing this will help you determine the speed of the putt and how much break to play. For instance, if you are putting downhill into the sun you are putting with the grain and you are going to have a very fast putt so you will need to add more break and just get it started online and gravity will do the rest.
Reading the Putt
Reading the putt correctly takes practice. Watch when Tiger is putting, he has a routine that he does every time (unless it is a tap in). He marks his ball, and then he proceeds to walk around the entire circumference of his putt. What is he doing? First he is looking at the grain, next he is looking at the angulations of the green and third, he is feeling the green. When he is walking around the green he is also feeling the green with his feet. This will help to feel slight angulations that maybe very hard to see. Try this sometime especially when you are playing an unfamiliar course you’ll be surprised by what your feet will tell you.
Know the Local Knowledge
One thing that many golfers don’t even think to do is learn the local knowledge. This can help you immensely on the course. What do mean by this? Well each course has its own little quirks, for example most putts tend to break towards the water. If you live near mountains you will learn that the course may lean toward the valley there for affecting your putt. This type of knowledge will help you become a more Tiger Woods like putter because he knows the local knowledge on all the courses he plays and knows that some putts may look like they should to the right but it actually does the complete opposite.
So in conclusion if you want to be a Tiger Woods putter and not a three putter-learn the grain, read the greens. And ask about the local knowledge for any course you play.

Too many people spend hours at the driving range, trying to tweak and master their drive, but what good does that do if they cannot sink a putt.

Hitting the green in one stroke on a 196 yard Par 3 is meaningless if it takes 3 putts to sink the ball – a bogie is a bogie. It takes a deep understanding of the game, the mechanics of golf and a respect for the shear importance of the short game to ensure that your putting game is as successful as possible.

It’s no secret that people have trouble with their putting game. If you visit your nearest golf club and watch the people there putting, you’ll notice the two most common mistakes in any putting game:

The putter is being pulled back and yanked through the motion.

Their head is lifted from the club as soon as or before the club makes contact with the ball.

These two common flaws sound like mistakes when you write them down and discuss them, but on the green, you probably make the exact same mistakes and may not even realize how often you are doing so. Watch a successful putter in the PGA. Tiger Woods’ putting game starts with a single stroke that smoothly follows through, the takeaway and follow through exactly the same length. They keep their heads down throughout the shot and wait to listen for the ball dropping into its cup. The only time you should ever lift your head from a putt is if it is a long putt of more than 15 yards and your stroke is one-hundred percent complete.

The key to finding success in your putting game is not in simply overcoming these simple flaws though – it is shocking just how hard that can be. You must practice regularly and step back to ensure that you can quiet your mind – removing every extraneous thought from it carefully and focusing intently on your breathing.

In addition, you must be able to learn how to read the greens successfully. This takes careful, repeated observation of the greens while playing. If you are good at the art of putting, you will never be content with your own shot – you will watch everyone that goes before you to look for shapes in the green and curves on the ground.

Practicing Your Putting

You should practice putting as often as possible. One good way to do this is by creating a corridor through which you can shoot your ball. Set two clubs down on the green, about 6 feet away from the hole. Place them parallel to each other and facing directly toward the hole and try repeatedly to punch the ball directly between the clubs.
Use this opportunity to measure your backswing and follow through and ensure that you have the right measurements and length on your shots for each stroke. This also lets you work on your alignment to see where you should be standing to make a straight shot.

Ideally, if you create a good form and practice your putting regularly, you can overcome some of the most common mistakes people suffer from on the greens. This will vastly improve your putting game and almost always lower your score significantly.

I’m not a huge golf fan, but like most people, I know Tiger Woods as the best golfer of our generation. He is a true master. A natural.

Even though he is considered one of the best golfers of all time, Tiger Woods needs to practice to stay on top of his game. His philosophy and approach to practice and where he devotes his focus is very surprising.

To simplify the game of golf, there are two major skills needed, putting and swinging. Your swing drives the ball down the fairway a long distance onto the green where you then putt the ball a short distance into the hole. The fewer times you hit the ball to reach the hole the better.

Tiger Woods has a great putt. In fact, his putt gets all the glory, we’ve all seen the commercial where he sinks a putt, pumps his fist in victory and drives away in a new Cadillac. But it is his phenomenal swing that separates him from the rest of the field. It is truly one of the sweetest and smoothest in the history of the sport.

So what do you think? When Tiger Woods heads out of the club house for his morning practice, where does he spend his time and energy?

Does he head to the practice green to work on his biggest weakness, his putting or does he head for the driving range to work on the biggest strength, his swing?

–Tiger Woods spends 20% of his practice time on his weakness and 80% on his strength.

Surprised? I was.

He knows (and I learned) that working on the things you are good at gives you more energy, more motivation and ultimately more success.

His work smart ethic is to focus on his natural strengths. By doing so he makes them sharper and they become an even stronger asset to his game.

It is practice and it is effort, but because his swing is natural to him, he enjoys working at it and getting it just right. For him seeing the ball fly down the fairway with just the right angle and correct distance is gratifying.

On the other hand, he works on his weaknesses just enough to keep them from hindering him, holding him back or getting in his way to success.

The Tiger Woods story is a reminder that we all have natural strengths and weaknesses. It’s where we spend our energy and time that makes all the difference.

My challenge to you is to think about your business. How are you investing your time and energy within your business? On your strengths, the things you enjoy doing or on your weaknesses, the things you really struggle with?

In future issues, we will explore how you can focus on the things you enjoy doing and less on the things you don’t.

Tiger Woods, the world number one, wins most of his tournament and now clinches the crown for greatest putter all time. The golfer made history and will continue to make new record. He is a legendary figure in golf world.

Playing career: 1996-According to our voters, consider yourself lucky — for the past 14 Tour seasons you’ve been paying witness to the greatest putter of all time, Tiger Woods. As you sit, you can probably peel off half a dozen highlight-reel putts Tiger has made in his career: The finger-pointing bomb at Valhalla on the first playoff hole against Bob May at the 2000 PGA Championship; the double-fist-pumping birdie on the 72nd hole of the 2008 U.S. Open to force a Monday playoff against Rocco Mediate; the hat-throwing downhill slider to snatch the 2008 Bay Hill Invitational from Bart Bryant; or the original-Tiger-fist-pump-inducing 14-footer on the island green at TPC Sawgrass to finish off his improbable comeback against Trip Kuehne at the 1994 U.S. Amateur. You can bet there’s more to come.

Tiger is the greatest putter of all time because he makes the ones he should (he was 1 of only 6 players to make every putt inside three feet last year on Tour), and the ones he shouldn’t. From 2004 to 2008, Tiger’s Average Distance of Putts Made, a somewhat cerebral stat that calculates the total distance of putts holed for a given tournament, is 6 feet longer than the Tour average. He’s an expert at making long putts other golfers miss.

Tiger has always been erratic off the tee. His iron game is elite. When he wins, however, it’s because his putting is on. When all three elements come together he laps the field in victories so lopsided the whole course looks like its listing in water.

Stroke analysis: Woods isn’t as technical as some other players, but you wouldn’t know it by his putting. His setup is fundamentally perfect with everything square, especially his forearms and the puttershaft — it looks like they’re the same line. I’m sure he practices this — a lot. When your setup is this good, you’re going to make a lot of putts. And when you combine it with an equally sound stroke (he moves through the ball like it’s invisible), you make a lot of history.

Author: Tinny

Seems like every time he has a putt of 30 feet or more, the ball grazes the hole or finishes a foot away for Tiger Woods.

No. 1, he puts a great roll on the ball, and that’s because his mechanics are very solid. The face of his putter is squaring to the path at impact, not cutting against it, and he has that constant acceleration. He never looks like he’s holding the putter back or accelerating it; it looks like the putter accelerates itself. And finally, he practices long, breaking putts. You’ve got to hit it solid to be close to the hole from long range.

Tiger talks about releasing the putterhead.

That’s a word that describes a specific feel for a very good player. It goes back to the pendulum: if you keep your center (head and sternum) still and you let the weight of the putter go past your center, that’s releasing the putter. I don’t think it’s flipping the putter or necessarily closing the face; it just has to do with simply letting the putter go past your center.

Is there a drill you’d recommend for short putts, long putts, or both?

Hit your long putt first, then try and convert the short one.

Most golfers have what I like to refer to as a signature backstroke. They take the club back the same distance for almost all putts. Let’s say it’s 12 inches – if they take it back 12 inches on a 4-foot putt their brain starts screaming, “Slow down!” If they take it back 12 inches on a 40-foot putt their brain screams, “Speed up!” Ultimately, what you really want to learn is what length backstroke is right for each putt. If you’ve got a 4-foot putt you should really have a backstroke of 6 inches. (Normal green speed, stimped at 10). If you’ve got a 40-foot putt you really need a backstroke that’s somewhere around 15 inches, so you’re allowing the putterhead to create its own momentum.

Think about a pendulum: A pendulum you swing way back and the distance it travels determines how fast it moves forward. If you swung it 6 inches it would swing slower than if you swung it 15 inches. What happens with most people is they’re controlling the putter’s speed versus letting it swing by itself. If you look at the best putters, they have a constant rate of acceleration and an equal back and through motion.

Any advice for the weekend golfer?

There are 10 people come through our short game school regularly, and I think 70 percent have the wrong putter; it’s not the right specifications for them. So they’re never going to get better. It’s like glasses: You won’t see clearly until you have the right specs.

Stop wasting your time with band-aids and quick fixes that don’t do anything. Get to the heart of the problem, and get fitted.

Putting usually comprises about 40 – 50% of your total strokes, so improvements in this area of your game should make an immediate impact on your score. Here are 5 putting tips that you can implement today to slash several strokes off of your next round of golf.

Putting Grip

If you currently use the same grip for driving, long irons, chipping, and putting, you may want to consider modifying your putting grip. Long drives require a firm, strong grip on the club so you get maximum power throughout the swing, whereas chips and putts require more finesse. For putting, you should have a light grip on the putter, with both hands parallel to each other and parallel to the club face. The hands should be interlocked, with the left hand lower. The softer grip allows the putter to do the work, rather than have your hands push the ball to one side or the other.

Control Your Body

Your lower body should not move at all when you putt. Again, you are not trying to get a lot of power behind the ball, you are looking for finesse. All of the motion should be from the upper body. Practice putting and focus on keeping your lower body still. Keep practicing until this feels normal.

Spot Putt

Especially for long putts, it can be difficult to extend your focus all the way to the hole, and still make a good stroke and hit the ball properly. Instead, focus on a spot a few inches in front of your ball, that is along the proper path the ball should take to get to the hole. While putting, make sure that the ball rolls directly over this spot. This allows you to keep your eyes focused on the ball and make a clean stroke.

Do Not Linger Over the Putt

If you linger over a putt for too long, you can lose the feel of the putt. After you have measured it out, determined the line, and practiced the speed of the putt, you should not wait too long to make the actual putt. Once you have taken your last practice putt, and you are getting in your final stance, count down from 10 and hit the putt before you get to zero. Before long you will not even need to count down at all, it will come more naturally.

Develop a Routine

Whatever you do to get ready for a putt, do it the same way every time. Size up the putt the same way, for example, look at the putt from behind the ball first, look at the putt from halfway to the hole, then look at the putt from behind the hole.
